~ BOOKSHELF OF THE FAITH ~

Our self-service parish library, shown here, is open immediately after each day's liturgy.

Also, the web is blessed with several on-line versions of texts which are fundamental to our faith:

Catechism of the Catholic Church - The 800-page document published in 1994 which integrates the conclusions of Vatican II with the whole of Church Tradition, Sacred Scriptures, writings of the Fathers of the Church, the liturgy and the teachings of the Church's Magisterium. This version includes the September 1997 refinements.

The Bible - Douay-Rheims Version, 1899 edition. This version of Sacred Scripture does not contain today's gender-inclusive and other fashionable wording alterations but it does contain God's message. It is the only Catholic Bible on the web.

Documents of Vatican II - Constitutions, declarations and decrees of the Second Vatican Council are available at several web sites. This link is to the collection in the Vatican's archive.

Papal Encyclicals - The encyclicals and other writings of our recent popes.

Catholic Encyclopedia - 1913 edition. Although still being added to the web, a wealth of reference material is available now. Caution: some of the views expressed are obsolete, for example the Shroud of Turin is described as probably a 15th century fabrication, whereas susequent research has led to a less-doubting view in the New Catholic Encyclopedia (which is not currently on the web).

Code of Canon Law - The laws of the Roman Catholic Church. Promulgated in 1983.
